  • This is a good week, starting 10 April, to check out local wines, goat cheeses and other produce along the La Cote wine route: dates, places and explanations in English.
  • The annual Inventions fair 18-22 April, with Cern as the special guest this year.
  • Arvinis wine fair, 18-23 April in Morges, is Switzerland's largest and one of the best chances around to sample a wide range of wines and talk to winemakers.

  • Morges tulip festival with its 100,000 tulips under ancient trees along the lakefront is an annual must: 31 March-13 May, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, free.

  • Chocolate festival in Versoix, 17 March, 10:00-17:00, place de la Gare. Free entry. Tasting and making, and Favarger opens its factory doors to the public.
  • 216 igloos (Fr) are open to the public Sunday 17 March above Crans-Montana. Boy Scouts are building the igloos and sleeping in them the weekend of 17-18 March as part of the centenary celebrations of the Scouts. Each igloo represents a country and the scouts who build them are sending messages of peace to "their" country.
  • South Africa is in the cultural limelight: Fribourg Film Festival, 21 March and as a highlight of the Cully Jazz Festival, 27 March. Details for both, in English: Cully festival. See swissinfo, the film festival.
  • "Future of business: Focus on China," 20 March 18:00-20:30, Geneva Women in International Trade (GWIT) panel discussion. Ramada Hotel near the airport, Geneva. SFr25; GWIT members SFr15.

  • Crans-Montana winter Caprices festival, 7-11 March, with good snow on the slopes, at last: rock and ride.
  • Geneva motor show reminder, 8-18 March, Palexpo, Geneva. 10:00-20:00 Monday-Friday and 9:00-19:00 Saturday-Sunday. Adults SFr14, children SFr8. Tickets sold online, printed at home. Public transport is the best way to get there: in Geneva buy your car show ticket from the TPG (city transport) and your bus or tram rides are free. Get 10% off on combined CFF train-car show tickets purchased online from outside Geneva.
  • "Women in Physics," 13 March in Geneva. A look at Cern's work with and the growing role of women in the field, with Cern scientist Manuela Cirilli presenting. Geneva Women in International Trade (GWIT) 12:15–13:00, registration and networking; 13:00–14:00, presentation.   • Gardens again ('tis the season, or nearly): 20 March, Geneva's botanical gardens and conservatory offer one-hour guided tours on a variety of themes.
