24 Heures, Fre - The Montreux Jazz Festival looks likely to open in 2007 without performers at the Casino, although festival authorities say they cannot confirm any changes until the end of 2006. When the 2006 festival closed director Claude Nobs made it clear that without state funds to help balance the budget the festival would need to find ways to cut costs. The Casino is the original festival's home but had to be abandoned in 1991 for the larger Stravinsky Hall. Three years ago the festival turned back to the Casino for its fringe festival events.
