Nestlé's Cailler chocolates bury their shiny wrappers

March 8, 2007 - 12:20 Vevey, VD, Switzerland :: posted by Ellen Wallace

romandie/ats, Fre - The saga of Nestlé's unpopular Caillet PET recyclable chocolate wrappers has come to an end, with the packaging shelved definitively, the company announced Thursday. After a 26% fall in sales in 2006 the company is returning to paper and cardboard wrappers. Nestlé does not give out figures for Cailler's turnover, but industry observers estimate that before the fall in sales in 2006 it was probably about SFr150 million.

Nestlé's new wrappers are part of a spring offering of six new chocolate bars, two under the Rayon label, which has had a single variety of bar chocolate for some 70 years. The new ones are white chocolate and crunchy. The company has also added three premium bars.
