24 Heures, Fre and GenevaLunch - Morges winemakers have agreed to create a special 2009 red wine made with wood chips from the Halle des CFF. The old oak building, for several years best known as the home to the Arvinis wine fair, will be torn down at the end of 2008 to make way for a new building complex. Arvinis will be held at the Halle this year from 18-23 April.
Wood chips were allowed in wines by the European Union in mid-2006 and Switzerland followed in November. France] and Italy moved to ban wood chips in AOC wines, however. Most Swiss AOC wines, notably those in the Valais, will also not be allowed to use wood shavings.
