Large chunk of Eiger crumbles; Grindelwald in cloud of dust

July 14, 2006 - 07:30 Grindelwald, BE, Switzerland :: posted by Ellen Wallace

[Update: story and photos, English, swissinfo]

romandie/ats, Fre and TSR, Fre - Grindelwald is sitting in a cloud of dust following a major rockfall nearby, Thursday at 20:00. A chunk of the Eiger, estimated to be one-third of the two million cubic metres that have been threatening to detach, crashed down and the rest is expected to fall soon. The huge dust cloud was kept from spreading by rain from mountain storms last night.
