24 Heures, Fre and GenevaLunch - Morges winemakers have agreed to create a special 2009 red wine made with wood chips from the Halle des CFF. The old oak building, for several years best known as the home to the Arvinis wine fair, will be torn down at the end of 2008 to make way for a new building complex. Arvinis will be held at the Halle this year from 18-23 April.
Wood chips were allowed in wines by the European Union in mid-2006 and Switzerland followed in November. (continue reading)→
La Cote, Fre - Residents of Morges qualify for a 20% discount on new bicycles, with the town paying the difference. The offer is part of Morges's campaign to promote energy-saving travel.
24 heures, Fre - A 15-year-old St. Prex football club player, Alain Brodard, was kicked while on the ground during a game with a team from Onex to such as extent he was taken to the hospital Sunday night and was instructed to rest for three days. His father, Bernard Brodard, has pressed charges in Morges against two members of the FC Onex team. The referee, a 19-year-old student from Lausanne, recounted his shock at the behaviour of the Geneva team, and his own fear of intervening, given the attitude and level of violence of the Onex players. The swan hit a tram wire and dropped to the ground, landing in the middle of Geneva's lunch hour traffic.
When in one day a swan drops out of the sky next to you and goes splat! on the ground, and a steam train comes toodling into the Morges station to stoke its fire, you know it's not a normal day.
