Nyon starts to count cars

La Cote, Fre - The number of cars in Nyon has risen 40% in 15 years and the town, with its narrow winding city-centre streets has struggled to cope. Beginning Friday and until 8 May Nyon is counting cars and interviewing drivers to obtain a precise traffic picture. Tuesday 17 April drivers going uphill on three routes (Clémenty, Morâche, route de l’Etraz) will be stopped to answer questionnaires, and on Thursday coming down the same three routes. Surveys will be done on other roads in following weeks.

Nyon voters in September 2006 voted against municipal plans for an inner ring road to relieve congestion. (continue reading)

Paleo 2007 programme leaked online

24 Heures, Fre - The programme for the Paléo music festival, 24-29 July in Nyon, was leaked a week ahead of the official press conference 17 April and is now available online. Tickets go on sale 18 April. Paléo officials have refused to comment on the leak and the programme, which remains unconfirmed except for Bjork. (continue reading)

Björk to star at Paléo Festival in Nyon

romandie/ats, Fre and GenevaLunch - The Paléo Festival in Nyon announced Wednesday that Icelandic singer Björk will appear at the July 2007 festival, returning to Switzerland for the first time in six years. Her 25 July show is the only appearance she will make in Switzerland. The Cannes Film Festival winner for best actress, for her role in Dancer in the Dark, has a new album coming out in April 2007.

Nyon and Prangin road plans startle Changins

24 Heures, Fre - A study group has been pulled together to find a way out of a political muddle created when Nyon and Prangin agreed on urban development plans - but forgot to consult the federal agricultural station at Changins, half of whose territory the communes planned to use.

Changins, which in 2006 became the main federal station for vegetation research, was startled to learn that it would lose half its ground, much of which is devoted to long-term planting and research. The red-faced communes explained that they thought it would be easier to negotiate with the federal government than with private parties - not realizing the importance of Changins, reports 24 Heures.
