Novartis sells Gerber to Nestlé

Le Temps, Fre - Novartis has announced the sale of Gerber, its line of baby foods, to Nestlé, for SFr6.7 million in cash. The sale makes Nestlé the world's number one baby food company. The line is expected to create turnover of SFr10 billion.

24 Heures, page link not available, Fre - Ulrich Grete, president of the AVS and AI, Switzerland's social security system, has broken a taboo to tell Cash TV he will vote against Peter Brabeck as president of the board of Nestlé. Of the AVS's SFr4 million in funds, 35% are invested in shares, the bulk of them in Swiss companies. As a rule, the AVS, one of the largest investors in Swiss companies, keeps its vote private.

Nestlé's annual general meeting 19 April promises a heated debate, with Grete following in the shoes of Ethos, the shareholders' rights group. (continue reading)

Nestlé's Cailler chocolates bury their shiny wrappers

romandie/ats, Fre - The saga of Nestlé's unpopular Caillet PET recyclable chocolate wrappers has come to an end, with the packaging shelved definitively, the company announced Thursday. After a 26% fall in sales in 2006 the company is returning to paper and cardboard wrappers. Nestlé does not give out figures for Cailler's turnover, but industry observers estimate that before the fall in sales in 2006 it was probably about SFr150 million.

Nestlé's new wrappers are part of a spring offering of six new chocolate bars, two under the Rayon label, which has had a single variety of bar chocolate for some 70 years. (continue reading)

Le Temps, Fre - Nestlé becomes the latest in the string of Swiss-based multinationals to present record results for 2006. The Vevey food giant Thursday morning said its net profits were up 13,8% and sales were close to SFr100 billion.

Nestlé and Barry Callebaut strengthen partnership

GenevaLunch and sources - Nestlé, the food multinational based in Vevey, and Barry Callebaut in Zurich, the world's number one producer of chocolate mass, are developing a shared strategy. Nestlé is continuing its move away from chocolate mass production and intends to turn over its production facilities in France and Italy to Barry Callebaut. It will also sign a long-term supply contract with the Zurich-based firm to supply liquid chocolate and some consumer products to Nestlé chocolate factories in Russia.

According to Nestlé, the agreement is subject to employee consultation as well as to regulatory approval. The two parties expect a final agreement to be signed during the summer of 2007. (continue reading)
